Recommendation of staff outfit on the product detail page matching the users body shape as Phase 1

Makip Co., Ltd. launched a personalization service, aunn Personalization on December 18th. aunn aims to achieve a personalized e-commerce interface based on body shape data in the apparel sector. In Phase 1, it will provide a feature to personalize the display of outfit images of staff members matching the user’s body shape. aunn plans to roll out functional updates incrementally, reaching Phase 3, and will continue offering various services to contribute to the advancement of apparel e-commerce.

As part of the Phase 1 of the aunn project, a feature will be introduced on the e-commerce site’s product detail pages. This feature prioritizes displaying outfit images of staff members with body shapes similar to the user’s. The development of this feature stems from the growing challenge of users finding staff outfit that suits them amid the proliferation of outfit information in the apparel e-commerce. Makip has introduced the size recommendation engine Unisize to about 300 sites, and has more than 2 million MAU(Monthly Active Users), possessing an overwhelming amount of body shape data. Utilizing this asset, we have developed a system that determines the optimal staff outfit based on the users body shape and displays it on a priority basis.

◾️ What is the aunn staff outfit recommendation feature?
Based on users’ body types and on-site behavior (preferences), aunn personalize staff outfit content for users. By prioritizing the display and easy discovery of outfits that suit their body type and tastes, we encourage actions such as product purchases and adding staff favorites. This approach is expected to improve the following three metrics.

The service name “aunn Personalization” embodies two concepts. Firstly, it draws inspiration from the traditional Japanese concept of “?????” (Aunn no kokyu), symbolizing doing something smoothly and understanding each other’s actions without words. The goal is to comprehend and respond to user needs and preferences beyond verbal communication. Additionally, the name “aunn” is derived from the initials of “All You(U) Need Now,” signifying the commitment to provide everything the user desires at the moment. This name encapsulates the service’s philosophy of sensing and delivering what the user currently needs without explicit communication. In essence, “aunn Personalization” is designed as a service that blends traditional understanding with contemporary technology to address challenges.

The background of aunn Personalization development stems from the awareness that the interface of e-commerce sites has remained unchanged for the past decade. Common interfaces, such as featuring banners on the main page followed by new product information, result in users actively searching for desired information within uniform content. Additionally, for individuals with minority body types (characteristic body shapes), finding clothing that matches both preferences and physique can be challenging, leading to a state where apparel e-commerce is not perceived as an enjoyable shopping experience.

Like recent social media, it is becoming increasingly common for personalized information to be displayed automatically to each individual user and we believe that such an interface will be common in apparel e-commerce.
